Struggles with Fertility

Why is everyone around me suddenly pregnant?

The family planning process can be both heartwarming and devastating.  When family planning does not go as expected, there is often a physical, emotional, and financial toll.  Medical appointments can focus on the physical aspects of infertility, leaving patients to cope with the emotional aspects on their own.  You may begin to notice that it seems everyone around you is becoming pregnant and people may be asking you when you are having kids, not knowing the extremely sensitive nature of that question.  It is essential to know that you are not alone, even if you feel alone.

Many women report the following symptoms while coping with infertility:

  • Overwhelming feelings of sadness and despair particularly following a failed fertility treatment

  • Anger and jealousy toward others who are pregnant (and then feeling awful for having these feelings)

  • Preoccupation with infertility issues and the process

  • Fear and uncertainty about the future

  • Isolation and loneliness

  • Feeling as though the body has failed even after doing everything “right”

  • Difficulty sleeping, eating and concentrating

  • Relationship problems

At Lasting Wellness, we are trained to support women through coping with uncertainty and complex decision making related to family planning. If you have been struggling with fertility and would like to discuss this with someone, please request an appointment.
